THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS have been switched on, and businesses, homes and other establishments across the country are aglow.

 People have gone to great lengths to make sure their places are pleasing to the eye.

Gone are the days when a Christmas tree, a few lights and some tinsel on the inside sufficed. Thousands of colourful lights have been set up in and outside structures in intricate designs and themes in some cases.

Lawns and driveways have been transformed with reindeer, sleighs, snowmen, Santa Clauses, shepherds, Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus and the like to give a feel of that first Christmas morn.

Some innovative people have got sponsors to help them create their spectacle, and it has also brought out the entrepreneurial spirit.

This house in St Philip even incorporated lit up sponsor displays (at right) in their lighting set up.

 

Barbadians and visitors alike are being charged a fee to enter gates and explore the “wonderlands” in some neighbourhoods.

Chief marketing officer of the Barbados Light & Power, Stephen Worme, has advised people to light up sensibly and keep the lights on for shorter periods this holiday season. (YB)
